For this week's quiz you will need to know the following:
  1. The main ideas in Chapter 2 in the textbook and in the article by Richard Borshay Lee, "Eating Christmas in the Kalahari," in Intersections.

    What you will need to know from these readings:
    a. what sociologists believe about instinct
    b. how norms regarding physical space vary among cultures
    c. what is a very important norm among the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert
    d. what Lee did that violated that norm
    e. what big joke the Bushmen played on him to punish him (negative sanction)

For a definition and example, click on a concept and a link will open. The best way to learn this information is to use 3"x5" index cards, writing the concept on one side of the card and the definition and example on the other side.

If you hand in typewritten answers to the study questions by Wednesday, September 10, you may gain extra credit to increase your grade for this week's test. You may also use your answers to the study questions as a substitute for the quiz.
