For this week's quiz you will need to know the following:
  1. The main ideas in the section of Chapter 2 called "Socialization" and in the article by Kingsley Davis, "A Final Note on a Case of Extreme Isolation"

    What you will need to know from these readings:
    a. what the example given of Gandhi in the Unit II introduction shows
    b. whether socialization allows us to think for ourselves
    c. why Davis's article shows that humans do not have any instincts
    d. what Anna and Isabelle were missing (Hint: It's one of this week's concepts)
    e. what happened to Isabelle when she was given attention and education

  2. Definitions and examples of the following concepts:
primary socialization

secondary socialization

generalized other

resocialization


You will also need to review the concepts from last week.

For a definition and example, click on a concept and a link will open. The best way to learn this information is to use 3"x5" index cards, writing the concept on one side of the card and the definition and example on the other side.

EXTRA CREDIT ! ! !
If you hand in typewritten answers to the study questions by Wednesday, September 17, you may gain extra credit to increase your grade for this week's test. You may also use your answers to the study questions as a substitute for the quiz.
