DIFFUSION
The process by which innovations are spread from one society to another
Examples:
Printing began in China in the sixteenth century and spread all over the world.
Industrialization began in England in the eighteenth century and spread all over the world.
Rock
music had its origins in the Gospel singing of African Americans in the South.
It was picked up by southern whites, such as Elvis Presley. Then it quickly
spread to the North of the United States, with its center in Detroit
("Motown"), where some of the most famous artists were African
American, such as Diana Ross and the Supremes. Later it spread to other
countries, including England, then came back to the United States with the
Beatles.
