    What you will need to know from these readings:
    a. the relationship of institutional racism to discrimination in income
    b. how Van den Berghe explains racism as a historical development
    c. the problems that Jonathan Kozol found in the schools in East St. Louis
    d. the main cause of the problems in the schools in East St. Louis
    e. the characteristics of the schools and the attitudes of the students in Rye, NY
