The following questions will guide your
reading for this week and will serve as a basis for
class discussion. Please prepare an answer to the
question that corresponds with your assigned number in
your small group. You may also use one or more of these
questions as a starting point for your first or second
essay.

What problems do Eitzen and Zinn (in Chapter
1) see as resulting from globalization?
How does globalization affect your own life, or how it is
likely to affect it in the future?

With reference to the article by Giddens,
what are some good things about globalization? What does
Giddens see as some of the problems caused by it?

Why do Brecher, Costello,
and Smith claim that the past quarter-century of
globalization has resulted in an increase in poverty and
inequality? How has the average American family been
affected?

After reading the first
four pages of the booklet by Barker and Mander, explain in
your own words what free trade is and what its goals are.
Do you think that the idea that the “rising tide will
lift all boats” applies to Mollie and Balbina? Why or
why not?

Mander, why should people who care about jobs, human
rights, healthy, safety, the environment, or social
justice be concerned about the WTO’s Dispute Settlement
