For a definition and example, click on a concept and a link will open. The best way to learn this information is to use 3"x5" index cards, writing the concept on one side of the card and the definition and example on the other side.

The following questions will guide your reading for this week and will serve as a basis for class discussion. Please prepare an answer to the question that corresponds with your assigned number in your small group. You may also use one or more of these questions as a starting point for your third essay.
1. According to Marable, what is the globalized form of racism that is characteristic of the twenty-first century? How is this related to the global economy?
2. What is the link that Marable draws between specific features of the global economy and the following problems faced by people of color in the United States : mass unemployment, mass incarceration, and mass disenfranchisement? (Please note: You need to read beyond page 318 in order to give an adequate answer to this question.)
3. According to Robinson, how does the global economy drive people to leave their homes to work in another country, even without legal status? What is the specific function for the U.S. economy of allowing millions of people to cross our borders but labeling them as “illegal”? How is this further facilitated by racism?
4. What are the specific characteristics that Connell attributes to what he calls “transnational business masculinity”? How is each of these characteristics related to the global economy?
5. What connections does Connell draw between transnational business masculinity and both sexism and racism?
