For a definition and example, click on a concept and a link will open. The best way to learn this information is to use 3"x5" index cards, writing the concept on one side of the card and the definition and example on the other side.

The following questions will guide your reading for this week and will serve as a basis for class discussion. Please prepare an answer to the question that corresponds with your assigned number in your small group. You may also use one or more of these questions as a starting point for your fourth or fifth essay.
1. Why do Barker and Mander say that economic globalization “is inherently destructive to the natural world”? Based on what they list as the causes of this destructiveness, what specific changes do you think would have to come about in the world to stop this from happening?
2. Why has the United States been forced to accept “dirtier” gasoline from Venezuela and Brazil , even though this could cause health problems in this country? How does this show the impact that the WTO has on our lives?
3. Singer quotes George W. Bush as having said, “first things first are the people who live in America .” After reading this article, do you believe that disregarding efforts to stop global warming is really in the best interests of all Americans?
4. What are all the factors that Batten et al. say will drive climate refugees to move to another country? Are these refugees responsible for the problems that may cause them to move? Why or why not?
5. What is the specific problem that is causing the people of the tropical island nation of Tuvalu to look for another place to live? How has Tuvalu become a symbol of what is happening to the planet?
